Digital Marketing covers a wide area so where do you start if you want to market your business? Below is a summary of the key steps you need to make to get started.
Make a plan
THE most important first step in any digital marketing strategy. This is something that will help you outline your goals. It includes a strategy, timelines, ideal outcomes and budget. A plan helps give your marketing direction and focus and will help you feel less overwhelmed. Treat it like a to-do list that you work your way through. A marketing plan will also ensure you are carrying out each step in the right order.
Content
So you have your plan, now time to create your content. Ultimately your content needs to speak to your ideal clients, to really resonate with them. So put yourself in their shoes, think about what they would find interesting, useful and engaging. Identify what their pain points are and demonstrate that you can provide a solution to this. Also ensure you create your content following what we call content pillars. Having a set of well-researched content pillars will ensure your audience is being served with content that will genuinely inform them and add value. It also helps offer a variety of starting points for ideas and ways to engage with your audience. I will sharing information on this area in more details in an upcoming blog post so keep you eyes peeled for this.
Your ideal client
As part of your marketing plan you must identify who your ideal client is, once you have done this you then need to find them and get in front of them! Hashtags are a great way to find people to connect with on Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook. Search local hashtags or ones based on your dream customer’s interests. Think about what they are looking for on social media. Follow these hashtags to find posts from your ideal client. Connect with them by leaving a comment that’s more than 3 or 4 words. Start a conversation with them. This shows that you are being genuine and will help get you noticed.
Recycle
By looking at your analytics you will start to learn which content is performing best, then instead of 'reinventing the wheel' each time, recycle or repurpose this into new forms of content. For example, a blog post or email newsletter can be re-used into social media posts, or short video clips such as Reels or Instagram stories. Also make sure you are creating 'evergreen' content, this is content that won't date and can be re-used. It's important to remember that you do still need to be creating fresh new content, but re-purposing good performing content is also an effective way to keep your feeds consistent.
Hopefully this 'snap-shot' of tips has helped you gain a better understanding of how you can successfully market your business. I will be sharing more in-depth tips in future blog posts.
